A Tree Is Always Perfect In The Garden...
Trees absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen. One tree - even a miniature
fruit tree on a dwarfing rootstock, planted in a pot on a roof terrace or in an urban courtyard garden - can create a micro-climate and a lush atmosphere.
A tree can make a privacy screen and a wind break, provide us with shade and shelter, and absorb dust, particulates and pollution. Deciduous leaf fall conditions the soil and feeds the micro-organisms in the earth.
Trees provide us with edible fruits, nuts, seeds, leaves and flowers, teas, oils, medicines, syrups, preservatives, fibres, resins, fuels, wood and timber products, paper, dyes, water proofing, lubricants, rubber, wood chippings, bark mulches and much, much more...
Environmental Timber Purchasing...
EarthCare only sources timber from reputable timber merchants with an approved Environmental Green Mark Award and with the highest category award for commitment to the Environmental Timber Purchasing Policy, jointly formulated by the Timber Trade Federation and Forests Forever.
This Policy stipulates that companies recognise a responsibility to their customers, suppliers and
staff to base all commercial activities on forests which are well managed to sustain their productivity and biodiversity.
Companies will not source any timber species prohibited under Appendix 1 of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES).
Companies are committed to sourcing all timber from legal sources and will seek evidence of compliance from suppliers that they are operating in accordance with the law.
Companies will seek from suppliers:
a) evidence of commitment to continuous improvement in environmental performance.
b) clearest practicable information on the sources of wood products.
c) evidence of good forest management practice at the original source of wood products.
Companies recognise that the independent certification of forests is a useful tool in providing assurances that the certified timber comes from legal & well managed forests.
Companies will only accept or use labels or certificates which include claims of continued environmental soundness and sustainability if these are supported by publicly available standards drawn up in a fully participatory, transparent and objective manner and backed up by independent inspection.
Companies will ensure that all employees associated with timber purchasing are given appropriate education and training if required in order that they act in accordance with this Policy.
Companies will appoint a Director to be responsible for the implementation of this Policy and will ensure that environmental issues are discussed regularly at the highest level of management.
Companies will define their own programmes and establish their own objectives and targets, to achieve continuous improvement in environmental performance in accordance with this Policy.
Companies will report annually to Forests Forever on the activities they are undertaking to satisfy
the terms of the Policy in accordance with guidelines issued by Forests Forever. |
